PAPERnews was a joint venture between CEPIPRINT and German publishing houses
such as
Burda, Gruner+Jahr, SPIEGEL, Axel Springer, Ganske und Georg
(Holtzbrinck) and VDZ.
PAPERnews was a German-language magazine that was published annually from
1996-2003. It focused on environmental and ecological issues, which were relevant to the paper industry. The magazine aimed to keep the public up to date with "green" issues around the world, as well as showing that the paper industry
was actively pursuing initiatives to benefit global ecology and environment while reducing negative impact.
Around 7.6 million copies of the final issue, PAPERnews 8, were distributed throughout Germany in publications such as
Focus, Stern, SPIEGEL, HörZU, TV Hören und
Sehen, Für Sie, Die Zeit, Prinz, Wirtschaftswoche and Funk Uhr, as well as in
Lufthansa’s airline magazine.
The project was funded by CEPIPRINT's members (pulp and paper companies). The
Boards of the companies involved in the project decided to stop producing the
magazine in 2003 to focus their efforts on other current environmental
communications strategies.
The PAPERnews website is still up and running in both German and English,
where you can read the magazines online, as well as catching up on other environmental news items and learning some facts about the papermaking process (www.papernews.de). The main articles from each issue in 2000-2002 are also available in English.
